Two Catholic schools in Glebe, two ways of setting a fee

Glebe has a Catholic primary and a Catholic girls' college a short walk apart, and the fee question works differently at each, because different bodies run them.

St James Catholic Primary School belongs to Sydney Catholic Schools, the system that runs Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Sydney. The school does not set its own tuition. Its fee page says tuition across the system's primaries and colleges varies "according to the area in which the school is located". A building levy applies to the eldest child in the system, each younger sibling pays less, and school-based charges for materials, excursions and music sit alongside tuition.

St Scholastica's College, for girls in Years 7 to 12, is outside that system. Good Samaritan Education runs it, and it publishes its own fee schedule. Catholic Schools NSW calls schools like this congregational: "independent" Catholic schools run by religious institutes, with the running of each school left to the school itself. Our directory files St Scholastica's under Independent, so a Catholic-only search will not show it.

What St Scholastica's publishes

The line joins the tuition figures we hold for the College from Year 7 to Year 12. Check them against the College's current schedule before you budget. That page also lists the application fee.

Where that sits locally

The line holds every school within 2 km of the College that publishes a Year 7 fee we hold. The headline counts from the lowest fee upwards. It is a position on a price line, not a verdict on any school, and it cannot show what siblings, levies or bursaries do to the bill.

If the fee is what stands in the way

St James's fee page lists the Catholic Education Foundation's bursaries: financial hardship, Indigenous, refugee and foster child. Ask the school office which ones apply. St Scholastica's sets its fees itself, so any conversation about assistance there happens with the College directly.

Next steps

• Open St James Catholic Primary School or St Scholastica's College for their details and what is around each.
• Looking at the system's schools beyond Glebe? The Sydney Catholic Schools finder searches by location, level and gender.
• The Glebe activities on this page are all inside the suburb, including Auskick, the junior AFL club and the St James Park tennis courts, so after-school options start close to both schools.
