Pyrmont, NSW Family Guide

Pyrmont has no Catholic school of its own on the AroundSchools directory, so finding one near the city comes down to which way you are happy to travel each morning. Each direction gives you a different kind of school.

Into the city

St Mary's Cathedral College sits beside St Mary's Cathedral and is run by Sydney Catholic Schools (background). After most of its history as a boys' school it is becoming co-educational from Kindergarten to Year 12, taking girls in the younger years first while the senior years stay boys for now, with a second campus on William Street (the college's announcement).

Watch the name when you search: St Andrew's Cathedral School at Sydney Square is Anglican, not Catholic (about St Andrew's). The two cathedral schools are easy to confuse.

Across Blackwattle Bay, in Glebe

St James Catholic Primary School is the Catholic primary listed nearest on the Glebe side. For girls in the secondary years, St Scholastica's College at Glebe Point is an independent Catholic school for Years 7-12, founded by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan (about the college).

Across the water, in Balmain

Fr John Therry Catholic Primary School is nearer as the crow flies than the drive around the bay suggests.

Timing an application

The systemic schools, St Mary's among them, enrol through Sydney Catholic Schools: primary applications go in the year before your child starts, secondary applications while your child is in Year 5, and applications close before the last week of March (how to apply). An independent college such as St Scholastica's takes applications itself.
