None of the 21 Perth schools we checked has a 2028-entry scholarship open to new families yet, and the first rounds open at 9am on Monday 2 November 2026. PLC, MLC and St Hilda's open that morning and close together at 12pm on Wednesday 3 February 2027, with tests on 11 and 13 February. Hale opens on Friday 20 November, Christ Church and Scotch in late November, and Aquinas and Iona in November. We read the scholarship pages and fee schedules of all 21 schools on 16 October 2026. Only four print a 2028 closing date for their main round so far, and six independent girls' schools run one shared test, so a girl sits a single paper however many of them she applies to.
Key takeaways
- The first open date is 9am on Monday 2 November 2026. PLC, MLC and St Hilda's print it, with applications closing at 12pm on Wednesday 3 February 2027, which is 110 days after 16 October.
- Six girls' schools share one test. MLC, Penrhos, Perth College, PLC, St Hilda's and St Mary's run a cooperative: one AAS test on Thursday 11 or Saturday 13 February 2027, up to three schools in preference order, and a $125 fee for the first school plus $60 for each extra.
- The boys' schools run their own calendars. Hale opens on Friday 20 November and closes its Year 7 academic round on Wednesday 10 February. Christ Church tests on Saturday 20 February 2027. Scotch opens in late November and has printed nothing else.
- Only four of the 21 schools print a 2028 closing date for their main round (PLC, MLC, St Hilda's and Hale). Seven print only a season, or nothing, for 2028.
- A 50% award is worth between $6,330 and $18,857 a year, depending on the school. At six schools it adds up to more than $100,000 across Years 7 to 12 at today's Year 7 fee.
- Awards below Year 7 exist but are rare. PLC and St Hilda's take applications for Years 5 to 10 in 2028. All Saints', Perth College, Trinity and Iona also run rounds at Years 4 and 5.

What is open right now?
Nothing with a printed 2028 closing date. Every 2027-entry round we found has closed, including the ones that were open in late summer: Hale's David Bean, Ryan Murphy and Stow Music rounds, PLC's Foundation award (Friday 25 September) and music bursaries (Tuesday 1 September), Mercedes College's Mercy Scholarship (Friday 25 September) and music awards (11 October), and Trinity's Year 10 academic round (4pm, Monday 14 September).
Four pages are less clear, and a call to the school will settle each one faster than guessing:
- Christ Church Grammar. Its overview table lists the Building Good Men regional boarding award and the South West Academic award as “2027 entry now being accepted”, with no closing date. The Building Good Men page itself says Year 7, 2028 entry and that 2027 has closed. Its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholarship (Years 7 to 10) says 2028 entry is open, with no date.
- Mercedes College. Its general scholarships page still says applications are open and gives no dates, while the dated pages show the Mercy and music rounds closed.
- Iona. Junior School music scholarships are listed for October 2026 and Senior School music for Term 4, neither with a date.
- St Hilda's OSA Ammonite scholarship (Year 11). No dates are printed.
For a child starting in 2027, the usual route is an ordinary enrolment plus a later entry point. Hale says its David Bean, Ryan Murphy and Stow Music rounds open again from 1 August to 3 September 2027, and most schools run further rounds at Years 9 to 11.
What opens next, and when does each one close?
The first rounds open on 2 November, and the last published closing date is Monday 31 May 2027. Dates are as the school prints them. “Late November” means the school gives no day.

Trinity, St George's, Peter Moyes and Mercedes still show only their 2027 cycle.
For those schools, last cycle is the nearest thing to a guide. For 2027 entry the cooperative schools closed on Wednesday 4 February 2026 and tested between 12 and 14 February. Wesley closed on Wednesday 11 February and tested on Friday 20 February. Trinity closed at 4pm on Friday 27 February. All Saints' closed on Friday 10 April and tested on Saturday 2 May. St George's closed on Tuesday 2 June and sat its EduTest on Saturday 6 June.
Why do six girls' schools share one test?
Because they run a cooperative, and it changes how a family should apply. MLC's 2028 scholarship guide names the six members: Methodist Ladies' College, Penrhos College, Perth College, Presbyterian Ladies' College, St Hilda's and St Mary's. A girl sits the AAS test once, at her first-preference school, and can nominate up to three schools in order. Results go only to the schools where a paid application has been lodged, and every school releases its offers on the same day.
| Thu 11 Feb 2027 | Test at MLC, Perth College or PLC |
| Sat 13 Feb 2027 | Test at Penrhos, St Hilda's or St Mary's |
| Wed 17 Feb 2027 | Online test for families more than 400 km from Perth |
| Mon 22 Mar 2027 | First-round offers; reply by Wed 31 Mar |
| Tue 27 Apr 2027 | Second and third-round offers, if needed |
| End of May 2027 | Process finalised |
The test fee goes to AAS, not to the school. It is $125 for the first preference, $250 for a remote sitting and $350 from overseas, plus $60 for each additional preference. Nominating three schools therefore costs $245 in test fees, and a family still submits a separate application, with reports and documents, to each school.
Three rules matter for the decision:
- The first preference gets the first look. It is the school where the child sits the test and the only one that considers her in the first round. A second-preference school can consider her only if a first-round offer is declined.
- A student can hold only one scholarship, and the member schools do not negotiate or match each other's offers.
- The test can be sat once. There are no resits, so a child who is ill on the day, with a doctor's certificate, needs the first-preference school to arrange the online test for Wednesday 17 February, at an extra $150.
The boys' schools and the co-educational schools are not part of this arrangement, so a boy applying to Hale, Christ Church and Wesley works to three separate calendars.
Which test will my child sit?
In Perth the answer is mostly Academic Assessment Services (AAS). Twelve of the 21 schools use it: the six cooperative schools plus Wesley, Aquinas, Iona, All Saints', Christ Church and, through its apply button, Scotch. St George's is the only EduTest school, and Trinity runs its own free exam. Hale, Guildford and Peter Moyes name no provider on their current pages, and Mercedes' Mercy Scholarship uses no exam.
AAS does not run one national test date. Its own description is that a school can run its scholarship tests on whichever dates suit it, which is why Perth's exam dates fall on a handful of days in February rather than a single Saturday. Our ACER vs EduTest vs AAS comparison sets out what each one asks of a Year 6 child.
ACER's cooperative sitting for 2028 entry covers Queensland, NSW, the Northern Territory, WA and Victoria, on Saturday 27 February 2027, with registrations open from 21 September and closing at midnight AEDT on Sunday 7 February. That is 9pm in Perth. None of the Perth schools' own pages that we read names ACER, so ask a school that names no provider which test applies.
What is on offer, school by school?
Each fee is the Year 7 figure on the school's own 2026 schedule, read on 16 October 2026. Where a school sets one comprehensive fee that already includes camps and a device (Christ Church, MLC and Wesley), the cell says so, and that figure is not comparable with a tuition-only figure. Most awards take a percentage off tuition only.

Two schools have already published 2027 fees, which shows how a percentage award grows with the fee. Guildford's Year 7 tuition rises from $29,275 to $31,324 (7.0%), and St George's from $13,094 to $13,828 (5.6%). A 50% award at Guildford goes from $14,638 to $15,662 a year. The other schools still show 2026 schedules, so re-check a school's fee page before you budget for 2027.

So what: at the six schools in yellow, a 50% award adds up to more than $100,000 across Years 7 to 12 at today's Year 7 fee. At Iona and St George's it is under $7,000 a year.
Each school's own 2026 fee schedule, read 16 Oct 2026 · aroundschools.com.au
A full 50% award is worth between $6,330 and $18,857 a year, almost three times as much at the dearest school in the chart as at the cheapest. Because the standard award is a percentage, its dollar value follows the school's fee. At MLC, Christ Church, St Hilda's, PLC, Hale and Wesley, a 50% award adds up to more than $100,000 across Years 7 to 12 at today's Year 7 fee, and more once fees rise.
A half-price place is not a cheap place. Half of MLC's fee is still $18,857 a year, which is more than the full published tuition at seven of the schools in this guide: St George's, Iona, Mercedes, Peter Moyes, Newman, Santa Maria and John XXIII.
Read the fine print on what a percentage is a percentage of. Most awards remit tuition only. Hale says holders still pay its endowment fee, and Trinity's Edmund Rice bursary leaves the resource fee and some levies to the family. Hale's Foundation academic award is a flat 25%, and Wesley says plainly that it “does not offer full scholarships”. The full-fee awards are PLC Foundation, MLC Shaping Futures, Penrhos Foundation Impact (95%), Scotch Tàlantach (up to 95%), Hale's David Bean (up to 100% after a means test), Guildford's D'Arcy Slater and Mercedes' Mercy Scholarship, and every one of them is means-tested.
Our WA school fees page shows the whole range, and our guide to how families pay for private school fees covers the rest of the bill.
Can you get a scholarship for primary school?
Yes, but only a few Perth schools offer one, and most start at Year 5. For 2028 entry, PLC's academic, general excellence and music awards take new students in Years 5 to 10, and so do St Hilda's academic and general excellence awards. A child in Year 3 this year is the one entering Year 5 in 2028.
Others run primary-level rounds on a different calendar. All Saints' academic scholarship covered Years 5, 7 and 10 in its last round, and its Innovation and Entrepreneurship award covered Years 5 to 11. Perth College's General Excellence scholarship takes Year 5. Trinity's academic scholarship was open to boys in Year 3 for Year 4 entry, and Iona's General Excellence award for Year 4 gives 25% or 50% of tuition across Years 4 to 6. Iona also lists Junior School music scholarships.
The large majority of Perth scholarship money attaches to Year 7, with a second cluster at Year 10. A child in Year 4 now reaches Year 7 in 2029, so the realistic target for most schools is a round that opens in late 2027. For a child in Year 3 it opens in late 2028.
Schools that offer no entry scholarships, and the public alternative
Three schools parents often ask about run no scholarships for new students. Santa Maria College says on its site that it “does not currently offer scholarships” through its fund, and its Catherine McAuley bursary is for current families with a concession card and is not available in Years 5, 6 or 7. John XXIII College states that it does not offer scholarships, and its Foundation Bursary for financial need has no published value or dates. Newman College states that it “does not offer academic, spiritual, cultural or sporting scholarships”, with music scholarships that cover lesson costs and an Aboriginal bursary program. Their 2026 Year 7 tuition is $15,299 (Santa Maria), $15,914 (John XXIII) and $9,567 (Newman).
The route Perth families weigh against a scholarship is Perth Modern School, the state's academically selective public school. It is free, and entry is through the Department of Education's Gifted and Talented process, not a scholarship. Check the department's page for the 2028 dates. For 2027 entry, applications opened on Tuesday 14 October 2025 and closed at 6pm on Friday 6 February 2026, the Academic Selective Entrance Test ran on Saturday 7 March 2026, and first-round offers went out on Monday 22 June 2026. Perth Modern's own page also lists Year 7 equity scholarships for students who already hold an offer. The one that prints a figure is a once-off $1,000.
That February closing date sits in the same fortnight as the private rounds, so a family pursuing both is running two applications at once.
Check the date twice before you diarise it
Several school pages still carry last cycle's dates, or disagree with themselves. St Hilda's prints “Wednesday 18 February” for remote testing, but 18 February 2027 is a Thursday, and MLC's guide gives Wednesday 17 February for the same online sitting. PLC's music and performing arts blocks print an information session as “Thursday 11 February 2026”, which is a year out. Penrhos and Perth College still show their 2027-entry dates beside a promise of 2028 dates later. Mercedes' general page says applications are open beside two dated pages that show them closed. Christ Church's regional boarding pages disagree on the entry year, and Trinity's Year 10 page has a CLOSED heading above a paragraph that says applications are open. Aquinas' own pages say interviews happen “two years prior” to entry in one place and “three years prior” in another.
Where a school's page disagrees with itself, ring the registrar rather than trusting either line.
What about the schools around you?
Many of Perth's scholarship schools sit in the western suburbs. Claremont, home to Christ Church and MLC, has 18 schools within 3 km and 30 kids' activities within 5 km. Mosman Park, where St Hilda's and Iona sit, lists 24 activities within 5 km, Swanbourne (Scotch) 25 and Wembley Downs (Hale) 21. South Perth, where Wesley sits, lists 46 and Mount Lawley, where Perth College sits, 49. Counts are read from each suburb's hub page and our Kids' Activity Index.
Music, drama and dance awards usually need an audition rather than an exam. Two performing-arts options listed in our directory are Lightbox Performing Arts in Claremont North and WA Performance School in Subiaco. We list them as examples of what is nearby, not as preparation for any school's audition.
Shortlist for a commute you can live with before you shortlist for an award. A scholarship changes the fee, not the school, and the exam dates cluster in one fortnight. Browse the rest of the state on our WA schools directory.
Frequently asked questions
When do Perth private school scholarship applications open for 2028 entry? At PLC, MLC and St Hilda's, at 9am on Monday 2 November 2026, closing at 12pm on Wednesday 3 February 2027. Hale opens on Friday 20 November. Christ Church, Scotch, Aquinas and Iona open in November. Penrhos, Perth College, All Saints', Wesley and St Mary's have not printed a day.
Are any Perth scholarships still open for 2027 entry? We found none with a closing date after 16 October 2026. Christ Church, Mercedes and Iona have pages that read as open without a date, so ring them. Hale says its David Bean, Ryan Murphy and Stow Music rounds open again from 1 August to 3 September 2027.
Can my child apply to several Perth schools? Yes. At the six cooperative girls' schools she sits one test, at her first-preference school, and nominates up to three schools. The boys' schools and the other schools run their own dates, so each needs its own paper and its own fee.
How much does it cost to apply? At the cooperative schools, $125 for the first school and $60 for each extra, paid to AAS. Elsewhere each school sets its own fee: Wesley $150, All Saints' $150 for academic and $100 for other rounds, St George's $100, and Trinity's exam is free. Several schools print no scholarship fee.
Which Perth schools offer full scholarships? Every full-fee award is means-tested: PLC's Foundation (100%), MLC's Shaping Futures (100%, external applicants), Penrhos' Foundation Impact (95%), Scotch's Tàlantach (up to 95%), Hale's David Bean (up to 100% after a means test), Guildford's D'Arcy Slater and Mercedes' Mercy Scholarship. Wesley states it does not offer full scholarships.
Can you get a scholarship for primary school? Yes, at a few schools. PLC and St Hilda's take new students in Years 5 to 10 for 2028 entry, All Saints', Perth College, Trinity and Iona run Year 4 or 5 rounds on their own calendars, and most Perth awards attach to Year 7.
Is Perth Modern School a scholarship? No. It is a free, academically selective public school, and entry is through the Department of Education's Gifted and Talented process. For 2027 entry applications closed on 6 February 2026 and the test was on 7 March 2026.
We have missed a round. What now? Apply for a place through the ordinary enrolment process, then aim at the next entry point. Most Perth schools run fresh rounds at Years 9 to 11, and several, including St Hilda's, PLC, St Mary's and Aquinas, run means-tested bursaries on their own timetable.

How we checked this. Every date, value, fee and test provider above was read on 16 October 2026 on the school's own scholarship and fee pages, or in the fee schedule or scholarship guide they link, and the dates and fees that matter most were read a second time at the source: the 2028 dates at PLC, St Hilda's, Hale, Christ Church, Scotch and MLC's cooperative guide, ACER's 2028 dates, and the 2026 fee schedules at ten schools. Scotch publishes its fee schedule in an embedded viewer, so open its fee page for the figure. Where a school's page was silent, we say what to ask rather than estimating. We hold no academic results data and publish no ranking of these schools; for outcomes, use the ACARA My School website. Schools change their programs every year, so confirm a date on the school's own page before you rely on it.
